For freelancers, consultants, and small teams who ship with AI
Time tracking for work you do with AI.
Track your hours by client and project, from the app or from Claude. Let your AI agents log their own time. See human and agent effort side by side on every task.

When AI does more of the work, your time is the judgment.
Clients are starting to ask how much of the work was done by AI. HourMill keeps a clean record of the time you spent reviewing, deciding, and fixing, next to the time your agents reported. No guesswork, and no blending the two together.
How it works
Set up clients and projects
Give every piece of work a clear home, shared across your team.
Track your time
Start a timer, or add time after the fact. Mark it billable, add a description, and link it to an issue from Linear, Jira, or GitHub.
Connect your agents
Claude and other assistants that support remote MCP connectors can log their own work to HourMill. You approve each connection and can revoke it anytime.
Everything you need. Nothing you don't.
Timers and manual entry
Start a timer, or add and edit completed time later. Only one timer runs at a time, so nothing double counts.
Clients and projects
Organize work by client and project, and archive what is finished.
Billable rates
Set rates on clients and projects and mark time billable. Rates are locked in when time is recorded, so past amounts never shift. Only admins see rates and amounts.
Reports
Billable and non-billable hours, weekly views, date ranges, and client or project filters. Admins see the whole team.
CSV export
Export time with member, project, client, issue, billable status, and source. Admins also get rate and amount.
Team invites
Invite teammates by email as admins or members. Members see their own time.
Track your time from Claude
Start, stop, and log your own time by asking Claude. Opt in when you connect, and every entry is labeled with where it came from.
Human vs. agent by issue
For any linked issue, see human minutes, minutes per agent, and the human-to-agent ratio.
Changing an entry's project or billable status takes a new rate snapshot. Changing configured rates alone does not reprice history.
Your agents log their own time. Kept separate from yours.
Connect an AI agent through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and it gets its own timer. It can start and stop that timer or record completed work against your projects, optionally linked to an issue. Agent time shows up on its own Agent Activity page with a clear Agent label, and never counts toward your hours, reports, or exports.
- You approve every connection and can revoke access anytime.
- Agents have agent-only access to their own entries. If you opt in to Track my time, a connection can access your own human time, but never teammates' time or other agents'.
- Entries show where they came from, such as via Claude ✓ for verified connections. Other connections are marked unverified.
- Agents cannot edit or delete time entries.
- Agent timers close automatically after a time limit and are flagged as unverified.
- HourMill records only what agents report. It does not watch screens or monitor activity.
What HourMill is not
- Not employee monitoring. No screenshots, keystroke logging, GPS, or activity tracking.
- Not invoicing or payroll. HourMill calculates billable amounts and exports them as CSV for the tools you already use.
- Not on your phone yet. HourMill is a web app today. A native mobile app and a browser extension are planned.
Frequently asked questions
What is HourMill?
HourMill is a web-based time tracking app for freelancers, consultants, and small teams. You track your time by client and project, and AI agents can log their own time separately through MCP.
Who is HourMill for?
People and small teams who do client or project work alongside AI tools, such as developers, consultants, and agencies, and who want a simple record of where their time went.
How is HourMill different from Toggl, Harvest, or Clockify?
Those are mature, full-featured time trackers, and several now offer MCP connections. HourMill is intentionally simpler and built around one idea: keeping human time and AI agent time separate, so you can compare them on the same issue.
How do AI agents log time in HourMill?
Agents connect through the HourMill MCP server at https://mcp.hourmill.com/mcp. After you approve the connection, an agent can list and create clients and projects, start and stop its own timer, and log completed work, optionally linked to an issue. Agent time stays separate from yours.
Which AI assistants work with HourMill?
Claude and ChatGPT connections are verified by HourMill. Other assistants and agents that support remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in also work and are labeled unverified.
Can I track my own time from Claude?
Yes. When you connect HourMill, opt in to Track my time. Claude can then start and stop your timer and log completed time for you. Those entries count as your time and are labeled, for example via Claude ✓. Claude cannot edit or delete existing entries or see anyone else's time.
Can I add time I forgot to track?
Yes. Add a completed entry with start and end times or a duration, and edit the project, times, or billable status of existing entries.
Does HourMill monitor my screen or my agents' activity?
No. HourMill only records time that a person enters or that a connected agent explicitly reports. There are no screenshots, keystroke tracking, or activity monitoring.
Is agent time included in my reports and exports?
No. Standard reports and CSV exports include completed human time only. Agent time appears on the Agent Activity page and in the human vs. agent issue comparison.
Can I use HourMill with my team?
Yes. Admins invite teammates by email as admins or members. Invitations expire after seven days and can be resent. Admins see time across the team, and members see their own.
Can I link time to Linear, Jira, or GitHub issues?
Yes, you can add an issue reference to an entry, and agents can include one when they log work. HourMill stores the reference and link. It does not sync with those tools.
How do I sign in?
With Google, or with your email address and a verification code.
Does HourMill handle invoicing or payroll?
Not directly. You can set hourly rates, mark time billable, and see billable amounts in reports. Export to CSV to bring it into your invoicing or payroll tool.
Is there a mobile app or browser extension?
Not yet. HourMill is a web app today. A native mobile app and a browser extension are planned.
How much does HourMill cost?
HourMill is free during early access. Paid plans will be announced before they start, and you will not be charged unless you choose a paid plan.
Can I export or delete my data?
You can export your completed time as a CSV and delete your own time entries. For account closure or other data requests, use the contact form linked in our Privacy Policy.
The ✓ reflects an HTTPS callback-host check, not software attestation. Claude callbacks to localhost are unverified.
